Chuck Cooperstein to Headline Live Auction at Salvation Army of Irving’s Annual Luncheon

Jul 11, 2023 | by The Salvation Army

The Salvation Army of Irving is delighted to announce the highly anticipated return of its Annual Luncheon on Tuesday, July 25, following three years of cancellations spurred by the pandemic. Held in the Grand Ballroom of the Irving Convention Center, this year's event will bring together the cherished traditions of the Super Lunch and Soup, Soap, and Hope events, presenting a fresh format and a new time of year for the Irving community.

The Super Lunch’s humble beginning dates back to 1993 when it was held in the gymnasium of The Salvation Army in Irving. Initially conceived as a soup lunch in line with the concept of a soup kitchen, the event steadily grew in significance throughout its years running.

The Soup, Soap, and Hope Luncheon, organized by the League of Volunteers and originally hosted at The Las Colinas Country Club, attracted over 200 community members each Spring to raise funds for The Salvation Army of Irving’s social services and Boys & Girls Club programs and collected donations of soup and food pantry items.

“As we embrace the return of the Annual Luncheon this year, we pay tribute to the enduring legacies of both the Super Lunch and Soup, Soap, and Hope events, uniting them as one unforgettable occasion,” Lieutenant Cody Johns of The Salvation Army’s Irving Corps Community Center said. “The program promises to be an engaging blend of inspiration, education, and compelling storytelling, reaffirming our commitment to serve and uplift the Irving community.”

Irving Mayor Rick Stopfer and his wife, Melanie, honorary chairs for the event, will welcome Irving's esteemed Chuck Cooperstein, the voice of the Dallas Mavericks and the National Sports Media Association's 2022 Sportscaster of the Year, to guide the live auction portion of the program.

Beginning at 11 a.m., guests will have the opportunity to register and check-in, while also enjoying a preview of the captivating live auction items and exquisite handmade paintings created by The Salvation Army of Irving's Boys & Girls Club members. The luncheon doors will officially open at 11:30 a.m., welcoming attendees to an informative journey through the history of The Salvation Army, as well as a glimpse into its inspiring future.

The event is an opportunity to gather as a community and help support the ongoing needs of families and individuals combatting poverty, addiction, and homelessness in Irving. Attendees and donors will raise vital funds that contribute to The Salvation Army of Irving’s essential programs in the area, such as rental and food assistance, the cherished annual Angel Tree program, and The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club of Irving at the Gene and Jerry Jones Family Center for Youth.

The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club of Irving plays a vital role in empowering the younger generation, serving five local schools with enriching programming.
